President’s Message – March/April 2016

Message from the President – April 2016

Hello!

Glorious sunshine out there and people are on the courses…life is good!  Can’t believe we’re finally closing in on the start of the 2016 golf season.  Our first night is only about a month away.  The winter was much kinder than last year and I’m told the the Riverside greens wintered well.  Our course is blessed with lots of trees and shelter so the snow is a little slower to melt than the other courses in town.  They are expecting to open Riverside by mid-April.

Registration

Our club registration is now complete and we have 29 new members….a big welcome to you all.  We are looking forward to meeting you at our kick-off!

Membership registration for 2016 is now closed. Our deadline was March 1.  If you would like to be considered for 2017, please send an email to our Treasurer at jmelnych1@shaw.ca and we will contact you next year to see if you are still interested.

Kick-Off Cocktail Party

Our 2016 Kick-Off Cocktail Party will be on Thursday, April 21 at the Sawmill Banquet Centre. We’ll have snacks, share important information about the coming season and assign mentors to the newbies.  There’s no charge as this is included in your registration fee, but we do need to know whether or not you are coming.  Watch your inbox for the E-vite coming out this week with all the details, and please RSVP as soon as you can.

First Night of Golf – UPDATED!

We are starting the season even earlier than we thought!  In light of the beautiful weather, our club pro, Ken Ingoldsby, has invited us to have an “unofficial” start of the golf season on Tuesday, April 26There are no tee times….just show up and they’ll get you out on the course as soon as there is a spot.

Our season will officially start on Tuesday, May 3.  There will be no tee times for that night, either, but you will fill out ballots and we’ll start assigning tee times the following week.

2016 Golf Fees

I am happy to announce that the City did not raise the green fees this year.  Weekdays 9 holes is $31 (18 is $47).  Weekend rates for  9 holes $35 (18 is $58).

Multi-Passes

If you are going to buy a multi-pass or discount card this year, please pick them up BEFORE our first Tuesday so you don’t hold up the check-in at the pro shop that night.  The rates are posted under Resources.

The pro shop is now open from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily and when the course opens the hours will be 7:00 a.m – 8:30 p.m.

Golf Schedule

While you’re on this website, check out our club’s Events Calendar.  All the dates of our tournaments and special events are listed there so you can populate your personal calendars.

2016 Member booklet

The 2016 Member booklet is posted under Resources.  It contains important information about our league, how to book tee times, what to do in rain outs, descriptions of all of our tournaments and events, and guides on handicaps, golf etiquette and pace of play.  Take some time to read it before the season starts.

Bylaws

The Executive has revamped our club Bylaws and they are available on the website under Governance.  These Bylaws provide the foundation for the governance of our league.  Every member should make a point of reading through them.

Executive

A contact list of our 2016 Executive is posted under Governance so if you need information about a specific event, you can contact the appropriate Executive member.

4th Annual Women Fore Pandas Golf Tournament

The 4th Annual Women Fore Pandas Golf Tournament is an event held by the University of Alberta Faculty of Physical Education and Athletics to help raise funds for female student-athletes.

The organizers wanted to reach out to the Ladies Leagues around Edmonton to find further support for this event.  This is a women’s only tournament so be sure to click on the link above to check out the details!

That’s it for now…but we’ll see you soon!
